Everyone will use the Powerpoint template in the TGJ40 shared folder to add their content and images, then upload to the shared Google folder.

The MSWord page layout file (named TEMPLATE) is in the TGJ4O shared folder in a FINAL PROJECT folder as well as the floor plan for the site.

Today the class will have a meeting to decide the following:

MEETING AGENDA – November 14, 2014

Review all creative artwork prepared for the project.

Decide on a look and feel to be used for all material:

  • logo design
  • colours (should work with school board colours)
  • shapes to display images, boarders
  • layouts – headers and footers

Based on the budgeted marketing strategies listed below:

  • Mass emails
  • Paper flyer
  • Virtual tour (finance pending)
  • Commercial
  • Info Session – Slide presentation
  • Blog
  • Facebook Page

Establish who will create content for the strategies above, the items are as listed:

  • Student profile – average age, motivation to finish, attitude
  • Tag lines and BRAND (COMPLETE)
  • Teachers – 4 teachers, classes they teach
  • Success Page – drop out rates, advice for keeping in program
  • Schedules – Start times, session dates, important dates.
  • Location information – site map – contact information, parking information, elevator
  • Tour of site – under 18, over 18, Fast Track, Credit Prep (links to Goodwill Amity), image layout map -- Food Choices close by – Stairway CafĂ© – Student Lounge + microwave
  • Future page – use Photoshop images

FUTURE ACTION ITEMS: based on the layout decisions made today, you will begin creating your assigned content on Monday.

SUBMISSIONS FOR THIS WEEK: Make certain your blog post for this week is complete and published, it should include all the components discussed this week relating to your school marketing plan.

Branding

From the information you've collected how you will achieve brand awareness.

Budget

Budget your dollars. What strategies can you afford?

What can you do in house, what do you need to outsource.

Marketing Goals

Establish quantifiable marketing goals. This means goals that you can turn into numbers. For instance, your goals might be to gain at least 30 new clients or to sell 10 products per week, or to increase your income by 30% this year. Your goals might include sales, profits, or customer's satisfaction.

ACTIVITY 3: Branding Budget and Goals

Once you have answered the questions above, update yesterday’s blog post with the 3 additional marketing components we covered today.

QUIZ TOMORROW: Is a boardroom strategy meeting. To prepare please have all of your smart art charts printed and ready to present, also bring your team work and creative thinking skills.

PART 2:

Competition: Describe your competition.

Mission Statement: Write a few sentences that state:

"Key market" - who you're selling to:

"Contribution" - what you're selling:

"Distinction" - your unique selling proposition:

Market Strategies: Write down the marketing and promotion strategies that you want to use or at least consider using, strategies to consider:

  • Networking - go where your market is
  • Direct marketing - brochures, flyers
  • Advertising - print media, directories
  • Training programs - to increase awareness
  • BLOG or Website

ACTIVITY 2:

Once you have answered the questions above, create a blog post with the 5 marketing components we have covered so far. Include your 2 images for TARGET MARKET and PRODUCT. Include your 2 images for TARGET MARKET and PRODUCT, a demonstration of how to convert your charts to .JPG using the CROP TOOL in Photoshop Elements, will be discussed in class.

PART 1:

Market: Collect, organize, and write down data about the market that is currently using your product, see bar chart provided in class. Based on the data you collect identify the following:

  • Retention rates for adult credit learners
  • Percentage of students in the Ontario Works program
  • Difference in success rates between sessions 1, 2, 3.
Target Market: Who is “consuming” your product? You will identify a “profile” of the student consuming the post-secondary education program.

Product: Describe your product. How does your product relate to the market?

Include in your description of your product the Educational Environment that best describes how teaching is being delivered: i.e. lesson based teacher taught – Hybrid classroom - SOLE (supported online learning environment).

To start the class today we will review the link or anchor tag and image tags you learned about yesterday.

In preparation for your final culminating assignment, involving marketing the King William ADS to future students, we will learn about the "NUDGE".

Last week we talked about the decision making process, we are going to continue that line of thinking into the realm of advertising and marketing and how marketers influence our decisions in subtle ways.

Define the following term:

- Behavioural Economic or Choice Architecture

Answer the following questions:

1. What examples of nudging did governments use to promote programs they implemented, give 3 examples?

2. What businesses use the nudging techniques to sell, give 4 examples?

3. Give an example of how schools use a nudge to encourage secondary school students to attend post-secondary education. What was the school’s success rate?

4. Do you think the tactic of a nudge (or choice architecture) is ethical?

5. Can you think of an instance where you have been presented with a nudge in marketing and advertising? i.e. lines painted on a floor in a store, signs that show your speed when driving, food suggestions on a menu, symbols suggesting recycling or energy consumption, etc.

As you watch and listen to the speaker write down your answers. You will be posting a summary of this speaker to your blog post, you need to include the following on your blog post:

-at least 3 points about the talk

- a link to the CBC Under the Influence page, use the LINK option at the top of the post page and you will need to copy and paste the URL for the talk

You have all made a big commitment and committed to changing your schedule by making the choice to continue your education, which involves you following through with your choice to complete your assignments, submit your timesheet, etc. Watch the following video:
