WEEK 9 - DAY 2

To start the class today we will review the link or anchor tag and image tags you learned about yesterday.

In preparation for your final culminating assignment, involving marketing the King William ADS to future students, we will learn about the "NUDGE".

Last week we talked about the decision making process, we are going to continue that line of thinking into the realm of advertising and marketing and how marketers influence our decisions in subtle ways.

Define the following term:

- Behavioural Economic or Choice Architecture

Answer the following questions:

1. What examples of nudging did governments use to promote programs they implemented, give 3 examples?

2. What businesses use the nudging techniques to sell, give 4 examples?

3. Give an example of how schools use a nudge to encourage secondary school students to attend post-secondary education. What was the school’s success rate?

4. Do you think the tactic of a nudge (or choice architecture) is ethical?

5. Can you think of an instance where you have been presented with a nudge in marketing and advertising? i.e. lines painted on a floor in a store, signs that show your speed when driving, food suggestions on a menu, symbols suggesting recycling or energy consumption, etc.

As you watch and listen to the speaker write down your answers. You will be posting a summary of this speaker to your blog post, you need to include the following on your blog post:

-at least 3 points about the talk

- a link to the CBC Under the Influence page, use the LINK option at the top of the post page and you will need to copy and paste the URL for the talk

- a pictorial example of a nudge, i.e. foot steps on a floor, a sign suggesting energy saving, etc.
